Ronit Roy Recalls Starting Security Agency Amid Hunger And Poverty: 'Didn’t Get Any Work, Had To Feed Myself'

Ronit Roy recently opened up about his hardships and how desperation led him to start a security agency when acting opportunities dried up.

Ronit Roy, widely recognised for his role in the hit television show ‘Kasautii Zindagii Kay’, has built a successful career in the entertainment industry. However, the journey to fame was far from smooth for the actor, who had to grapple with financial struggles and alcoholism in his early days. In a recent interview with Podcast Redcarpet, Ronit opened up about his hardships and how desperation led him to start a security agency when acting opportunities dried up.

Why Ronit Roy opened his security agency

During the conversation, Ronit was asked what prompted him to venture into the security business. He candidly admitted that it was not a strategic career move but a necessity born out of financial distress. “I am an honest kind of guy, I can only tell you the way it was. It was (the result of) hunger, poverty. Every great step that I have taken in my life has come out of desperation, frustration, and poverty. There was a time when my debut film was a silver jubilee, and after that, I didn’t get any work. I have no idea why. I got frustrated. I got no work. I got so scared. I had rent to pay, I had to feed myself. What would you do with no money? So I kind of signed the wrong films, and they flopped. Then I went back to square one and had no work,” he recalled.

Ronit Roy speaks about alcoholism

Ronit further spoke about how his struggles led him down a destructive path of alcoholism. “My alcoholism started out of that frustration. After that, everything went south. My life went into the gutter. Somehow the alcohol would come… I would wake up at 3 o’clock and then have a hangover, it just made things worse. I was written off by the industry, they said he is finished,” he admitted.

However, a turning point came when a friend noticed that Ronit’s name and face still held value. “He had a security agency, I used to go to his office to understand, to get trained and that’s where it started from. It started from a place of ab kya kare (What to do now)?" Ronit explained. His security agency went on to become a successful venture, protecting many high-profile celebrities over the years.

On the professional front, Ronit was last seen in the heist thriller ‘Farrey’, directed by Soumendra Padhi. The film, featuring Alizeh Agnihotri, Sahil Mehta, Zeyn Shaw, Prasanna Bisht, Juhi Babbar, and Shilpa Shukla, is an official remake of the 2017 Thai film Bad Genius.
