Barbie-Oppenheimer Meme Fest Finds A New Taker; Inspired Mumbai Police Creates Instagram Post On Public Safety

New Delhi: The meme deck on social media is still running ablaze especially as fans are excited over two big movies Greta Gerwig's 'Barbie' and Christopher Nolan's 'Oppenheimer' release this weekend. Now, it seems that the Mumbai Police has also jumped on the bandwagon and posted an Instagram post about public safety drawing from the two movies.
While Greta's 'Barbie', as the name suggests, is about the iconic doll, 'Oppenheimer' is a biographical thriller based on J Robert Oppenheimer, a theoretical physicist, known as the 'father of the atomic bomb'. Both movies with contrasting themes and coming from wide different directors have created quite a storm on the internet, giving rise to a great deal of memes in recent weeks.
Now, Mumbai Police have also joined the tide by creating an Instagram post inspired by the memes circulating around the two movies. Through the post, Mumbai Police targeted drug use, driving without a helmet and sharing OTPs with strangers.
Sharing the post on their official social media handle, Mumbai Police captioned it, "With such ‘barbie’ actions, you’re signing up for Oppenheimer consequences.”
The post generated thousands of likes. Universal Pictures India also commented on Mumbai Police's post and wrote, "Looks like this is also inspired by true events! #Oppenheimer”. Another comment wrote, "The person handling this account is dope 😂😂😂😂😂”.

However, many criticized the Mumbai Police and said that active social media presence does not count for lack of action on the ground.
Mumbai Police often relies on pop culture trends to bring home certain important public safety issues. Last year, they created a post around Deepika Padukone starrer 'Gehraiyaan' about sharing OTPs and once around a 'kurkure lock theme' to advocate stronger passwords.
Meanwhile, both 'Oppenheimer' and 'Barbie' are slated to be released on July 21, 2023.
