ZPM Chief Lalduhoma To Be Sworn In As Mizoram Chief Minister Today

ZPM leader Lalduhoma will take oath as Mizoram CM on Friday along with his council of ministers.

Zoram People's Movement (ZPM) chief Lalduhoma will be sworn in as the new chief minister of Mizoram today after a stunning poll victory in the recently concluded assembly elections. Several other ZPM leaders will also take oath as ministers on the same day, reported news agency PTI citing officials. Governor Hari Babu Kambhampati will administer the oath of office and secrecy to Lalduhoma and other ministers.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at the Raj Bhavan complex in Aizawl. In case the weather is not clear, the programme will be held in the annexe building of the assembly, officials said, quoted PTI.

Lalduhoma was elected as the ZPM Legislature Party leader on Tuesday and K Sapdanga as the deputy leader. According to a PTI report, ZPM media cell general secretary Eddy Zosangliana said that the Val Upa Council, an advisory body of the party, met Lalduhoma on Wednesday to decide the formation of the council of ministers.

Lalduhoma defeated J Malsawmzuala Vanchhawng of the MNF by 8,314 votes on the Serchhip seat. Speaking after the victory, he said: "After swearing in, we will announce our top priority projects for the next 100 days."

"Mizoram is facing a financial crisis and the financial condition is very bad. We are going to inherit from the outgoing government. In spite of this, we are going to honour our commitment. That is buying of four selected items - ginger, turmeric, chilli and broom stick. These four items have been identified," he added.

He further said: "We declared the minimum price and we are going to start now. Right now, we are going to go through the process of buying these four items. In spite of all the constraints we are facing, this is our commitment to the people and we are going to honour it. This is our first priority."

With a 40-member assembly, Mizoram can have 12 ministers, including the CM, the report added.

The ZPM won 27 of the 40 assembly constituencies while ex-CM Zoramthanga's Mizo National Front (MNF) managed only 10. In the 2018 elections, ZPM had won 8 seats while MNF had pulled 26.
