The Congress-led Opposition's I.N.D.I.A bloc is convening a rally today at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. This rally follows Rahul Gandhi's culmination of the 63-day-long Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Mumbai.

The I.N.D.I.A bloc, led by the Congress, is gearing up for a significant rally on Sunday at Mumbai's Shivaji Park. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin is among the prominent leaders from the bloc set to join the concluding event of the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi.

The rally follows Rahul Gandhi's completion of the 63-day Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Mumbai, where he paid homage to Dr BR Ambedkar at Chaityabhoomi and recited the Preamble of the Constitution. Commencing from Manipur on January 14, the yatra reached Mumbai from Thane on Saturday.

Top Points:

  • Ahead of the major rally, Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to undertake a 'Nyay Sankalp Padyatra' from Mani Bhavan to August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai today, as reported by PTI.
  • Gandhi will also engage with the public at Tejpal Hall near August Kranti Maidan. Mani Bhavan served as Mahatma Gandhi's residence in Mumbai, while Tejpal Hall witnessed the founding of the Congress on December 28, 1885.
  • Apart from MK Stalin, key opposition figures including Uddhav Thackeray of Shiv Sena (UBT), Sharad Pawar of NCP (SP), Tejashwi Yadav of RJD, and Akhilesh Yadav of Samajwadi Party are expected to participate in the rally.
  • According to PTI, other participants will include Saurabh Bharadwaj from AAP, Dipankar Bhattacharya from CPI, Farooq Abdullah from National Conference, Champai Soren from Jharkhand, and Kalpana Soren, wife of former CM Hemant Soren.
  • The rally will also mark the initiation of the I.N.D.I.A bloc's campaign for the upcoming Lok Sabha polls. The Election Commission recently announced the schedule for the polls, which will be conducted in seven phases from April 19 to June 1, with the results declared on June 4.
  • This rally holds particular significance in Maharashtra as several leaders from the state have recently switched allegiance to the BJP, notably former Chief Minister Ashok Chavan, who joined the BJP on February 13. Earlier, senior party leader Padmakar Valvi also joined the BJP in Mumbai on Wednesday.
  • During a public meeting in Dharavi on Saturday, Gandhi reiterated the Congress' commitment to a caste census and pledged an annual deposit of ₹1 lakh into the bank accounts of impoverished women if his party returns to power in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections.
