Punjab Polls: BJP, Amarinder Singh’s Party, SAD(S) To Constitute Panel For Finalising Seat-Sharing

BJP is going to fight the election in alliance with Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).

New Delhi: Ahead of the Assembly election in Punjab, Bharatiya Janata Party, Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt) and Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress have formed a six member-committee to finalise the seat-sharing arrangement in the alliance.

Punjab BJP in charge Gajendra Singh Shekhawat informed about the same while stating that a joint manifesto of the allies will also be unveiled ahead of the polls, news agency ANI reported.

This comes as BJP National President JP Nadda, Punjab Lok Congress founder and former Punjab chief minister Captain Amarinder Singh, and SAD (Sanyukt) chief Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa met Union Home Minister Amit Shah in the national capital on Monday.

Punjab BJP in charge Gajendra Singh Shekhawat also took part in the meeting.

Talking to the media about the discussion, Gajendra Shekhawat said: “Today the party chief of all three parties BJP, Punjab Lok Congress, and SAD (Sanyukt) headed by Dhindsa met. We will fight the election in an alliance. A committee consisting of 2 members from each party will be formed to discuss the issues like seat sharing. There will be a joint manifesto”.

In November, Amarinder Singh resigned from Congress and announced a new party ‘Punjab Lok Congress’ ahead of the Punjab assembly election.

BJP is going to fight the election in alliance with Punjab Lok Congress and Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).

While Punjab is scheduled to go for Assembly polls early next year, results for the Chandigarh Municipal Corporation poll were announced on Monday wherein Aam Aadmi Party emerged as the leading party winning in 12 wards.

The BJP, which enjoyed a majority in the previous MC House, came to a close second registering win in 12 wards while the Congress bagged eight seats and the Shiromani Akali Dal one.

Current Chandigarh Mayor and BJP candidate Ravi Kant Sharma was defeated by AAP's Damanpreet Singh, who won by a margin of 828 votes in Ward No. 17, news agency PTI reported.

AAP, the main opposition party in Punjab, has called it an indicator for the election win to come as its national convener Arvind Kejriwal tweeted: “This victory of the Aam Aadmi Party in Chandigarh Municipal Corporation is a sign of the coming change in Punjab.  The people of Chandigarh today rejected corrupt politics and chose the honest politics of AAP… Punjab is ready for a change this time.”
