Narendra Modi's oath taking ceremony likely to take place on May 30

With the elections establishing the 68-year-old Modi as the most popular leader in decades, the partial vote count released by the Election Commission showed that BJP will not only surpass its 2014 performance but also cross 300 seats on its own.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi who created history by sweeping the 2019 Lok Sabha polls with absolute majority is set to take oath as the Prime Minister of India on May 30. Modi, who will be serving the nation as a PM for the second consecutive term, has become the third Prime Minister of the country besides Nehru and Indira Gandhi to rule for second consecutive term. Ahead of oath taking, the Bharatiya Janta Party will stake claim to form the government on May 26 by proving their majority. A day after the BJP painted the entire nation in saffron colour, Modi met veteran party leader LK Advani at his residence on Friday. This comes after the leader was reportedly unhappy with the decision of giving the ticket for contesting the polls from his parliamentary constituency Gandhinagar to party President Amit Shah, who won the seat by a margin of 5.57 lakh votes against his nearest Congress rival C J Chavda. Shah polled 8.94 lakh votes, while Chavda secured 3.37 lakh votes. With the elections establishing the 68-year-old Modi as the most popular leader in decades, the partial vote count released by the Election Commission showed that BJP will not only surpass its 2014 performance but also cross 300 seats on its own. Until 7.30 p.m., the BJP had won 42 seats and was leading in 260 of the 542 Lok Sabha seats that went to polls in seven phases in April and May. It demolished the combined opposition with the Congress Party stuck at 11 confirmed victories and a lead in 40 seats, according to the partial results.
