Much-Awaited Bypolls In Ayodhya's Milkipur To Be Held On This Date
The Milkipur assembly seat fell vacant after sitting SP MLA Awadhesh Prasad won the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat in June.
UP Bypoll: The much-awaited bypolls in the Milkipur Assembly seat in Uttar Pradesh will be held on February 5, along with elections in Delhi. The results will be announced on February 8, the Election Commission announced on Tuesday.
The Milkipur assembly seat fell vacant after sitting SP MLA Awadhesh Prasad won the Faizabad Lok Sabha seat in June. BJP scored a big win in the bypolls for nine assembly seats held in November. The nine Assembly seats where bypolls were held in November are Sisamau, Katehri, Kundarki, Karhal, Khair, Phulpur, Ghaziabad, Manjhwa and Meerapur in Muzaffarnagar.
The Milkipur bypoll was to be held earlier along with by-elections for nine other assembly seats in November 2024. The Election Commission deferred the Milkipur bypoll due to a pending court case. The Samajhwadi Party had already named Awdhesh Prasad's son Ajeet Prasad as its official candidate from Milkipur.
In the 2022 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, BJP candidate Gorakhnath lost the election from Milkipur to Prasad. Later, Gorakhnath challenged Prasad's election, alleging discrepancies in the affidavit filed by Prasad during the nomination for the assembly polls.
