'People of WB Made Historic Mistake By Re-Electing Cruel Lady’: BJP's Babul Supriyo After Losing Tollygunge Seat

The singer-turned-politician in a Facebook post said that he would not congratulate West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on her party’s win in the assembly elections and lamented that the people did not give the BJP a chance.

Kolkata: Union Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Babul Supriyo on Sunday expressed his disappointing with the saffron party’s drubbing in the West Bengal Assembly elections and said the people have made a “historic mistake” by electing this “corrupt, incapable, dishonest government and a cruel lady” back to power.

The singer-turned-politician in a Facebook post said that he would not congratulate West Bengal Chief Minister and Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo Mamata Banerjee on her party’s win in the assembly elections and lamented that the people did not give the BJP a chance.

“Neither will I congratulate Mamata Banerjee for her win in Bengal nor do I wish to say that I 'respect' the people's verdict, because I sincerely think that people of Bengal made a Historic mistake by not giving Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) a chance & by electing this Corrupt, Incapable, Dishonest Government & a Cruel Lady back to power !! Yes, as a Law-Abiding citizen, I shall 'obey' the decision taken by the people in a democratic country.. That's it !! Nothing more - Nothing less !! #BengalDeservesBetter #VotingMamataBackAHistoricMistakeByWB,” he posted.

Supriyo’s outburst came as he entered the electoral contest from Tollygunge despite being an elected MP from Asansol but lost at the hands of TMC heavyweight and state’s PWD Minister Aroop Biswas by over 50,000 votes.

The TMC is all set for a third term in office as Banerjee-led party is racing way ahead in the projections so far. The TMC is ahead on 215 seats while the BJP is at a far distant leading in just 75 seats.
