'Kejriwal Will Take Oath As Delhi CM': Uddhav Sena Picks AAP Over Congress As Favourites In Poll Race

Delhi Election Results: Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena has chosen to back Arvind Kejriwal in the Delhi elections. This is significant as the Shiv Sena is in alliance with the Congress in Maharashtra.

Delhi Election Results: Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena, which was split for choice in the battle of allies in Delhi, has finally picked a side. The Shiv Sena-UBT is in alliance with both the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party in the INDIA bloc. Picking a side in the Delhi polls could only widen the already fragile INDIA bloc, which, some of the leaders of the 'united' Opposition platform said, ended right after the Lok Sabha elections last year.

The Shiv Sena-UBT has backed Arvind Kejriwal to take oath as the Chief Minister of Delhi.

However, the Shiv Sena throwing its weight behind the AAP instead of the Congress is significant as it is in alliance with the Congress in Maharashtra as part of the Maha Vikas Aghadi. Picking the AAP over the Congress could affect its equation with the Congress in Maharashtra too.

Going against the 'Sheila Dikshit model of development' narrative of the Congress, Sena MP Priyanka Chaturvedi said that Delhi will choose Kejriwal because of his work. Dismissing the exit polls, Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi says, "...Exit polls are known to go wrong. We have seen them in the recent elections... For any Indian to believe in the exit polls would be a preemptory celebration for something which could be different from reality. Let's wait for the results. Having seen Arvind Kejriwal and AAP's work, the people of Delhi will continue to impose their faith in them and vote for them..."

Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut MP, "The final decision will be out on February 8. The exit polls said that MVA will win in Maharashtra and Congress will win in Haryana... We are sure that the BJP will not win in Delhi and the AAP will come to power..."
