Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to discuss the BJP's Lok Sabha election strategy with Karnataka leaders today.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah is likely to discuss the Lok Sabha election strategy of the BJP with party leaders in Karnataka during his meetings today. He is also likely to discuss fighting the polls in alliance with JD(S) along with deliberations on the number of seats to be given to the regional party, President of the state unit of BJP, BY Vijayendra told news agency PTI.
Amit Shah is scheduled to hold meetings with the state BJP core committee members and leaders of the party's Mysuru cluster later in the day.
"The meeting will see the participation of 120 leaders from Mysuru, Mandya, Hassan and Chamarajanagar Lok Sabha constituencies. Also, there is a meeting with the state BJP core committee, where discussions will be held on the strategy for upcoming Lok Sabha polls," Vijayendra said.
Elaborating on the meetings, he said the meeting will focus on coordination between workers of both parties as they will face the elections together and it has to be ensured there are no trust issues between the parties at the ground level.
"We will strategise to win each constituency and seek the guidance of Amit Shah, who is known as election Chanakya," he added.
The BJP and the Janata Dal (Secular) announced to fight the upcoming general elections together in Karnataka. Discussions regarding the distribution of seats between the two parties are currently underway.
In the previous 2019 Lok Sabha elections, the BJP won 26 out of the total 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka. Notably, this victory included the success of Sumalatha Ambareesh, an independent candidate supported by the BJP, in the Mandya constituency. The Congress and the JD(S) managed to secure only one seat each.
Responding to inquiries about the significance of the BJP's initial meeting before the Lok Sabha polls, held in Mysuru, the hometown district of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, the state BJP chief downplayed its significance. He said BJP and JD(S) are aiming to secure victory in all constituencies across the state.
"Other than being Chief Minister's home district, it (Mysuru) is the stronghold of BJP, as people have been supporting the party in the Lok Sabha polls... in Chamarajanagara constituency, we will have to find a new candidate with senior leader Srinivas Prasad (sitting MP) announcing political retirement and strategiesAmit to win the seat," he said.
