Over the past five years, the representation of territories in the top 10 of the 11 subject rankings has expanded from five to eight. This development includes the addition of Australia, China, and Singapore to the previously featured territories of Canada, Switzerland, Hong Kong, the UK, and the US, as revealed in the most recent rankings released this week.
The subject rankings encompass a wide range of disciplines, such as arts and humanities, business and economics, clinical and health, computer science, education, engineering, law, life sciences, physical sciences, psychology, and social sciences.
Notably, the field of education displays the greatest diversity at the top, with five territories - the US, UK, Hong Kong, China, and Canada - now represented in the top 10 of the 2024 edition, marking an increase from just three in the 2020 edition. Furthermore, the latest rankings also welcome six new countries into the top 100, which are Austria, Brazil, Russia, South Africa, Spain, and Turkey.
Among the top-ranking institutions outside of the US and the UK, the University of Hong Kong stands at sixth place, followed by China's Tsinghua University in seventh place, and the University of Toronto in Canada, which secures the ninth spot.
