NEET- UG Results Row: As the controversy surrounding NEET-UG Reuslts 2024 depeens, student organisations in the country staged protests against the irregularities in the medical examination results. After the protest by the All India Democratic Students' Organisation in Kolkata on Thursday, the National Students' Union of India, also staged a protest against the NEET-UG "irregularities" in Rajasthan today.

However, the police lathicharged the NSUI members in Rajasthan's Kota, who were protesting and demanding that the medical examination be cancelled.

Protests In West Bengal Over NEET-UG Controversy

On Thursday, the members of AIDSO protested in West Bengal and marched towards the Bikash Bhavan situated in Kolkata,c arrying placards in their hands.

In an attempt to disperse the protestors, the police intervened and attempted to persuade them to call off the protest.

However, when the protestors insisted on proceeding their march, the police detained several demonstrators, taking them away in vehicles.

In view of the controversy, the Trinamool Congress has called for a Supreme Court-monitored investigation into the matter.

TMC spokesperson Santanu Sen also alleged that the BJP-led government was "playing with the future of students".

A prominent doctor Kunal Sarkar claimed that these "irregularities" were just the “tip of the iceberg." He also claimed that thousands of seats in several private medical colleges could have possibly been "auctioned off for sums ranging from Rs 2-3 crore."

Congress Questions PM Modi's Silence Over NEET Row 

Targetting the government over the NEET-UG exam controversy, the Congress on Friday questioned PM Modi's silence on the issue. The party also asserted that only a probe monitored by the Supreme Court can safeguard the students' future.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge claimed the PM Modi-led government had began covering up the NEET scam through Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and the National Testing Agency (NTA), news agency PTI reported.

"If the paper was not leaked in NEET then why were 13 accused arrested in Bihar due to paper leak? Did the Economic Offences Unit (EOU) of Patna police not expose the payment of Rs 30 lakh-Rs 50 lakh to the education mafia and organised gangs involved in the racket in exchange for papers?" Kharge posted in Hindi on X.

Earlier, the Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has dismissed the decision that granted grace marks to 1,563 NEET-UG 2024 candidates for MBBS, BDS, and other courses. These candidates have the option to appear for a re-test scheduled for June 23.
