NEET UG 2024 Result: 18-Year-Old Aspirant Jumps To Death Day After Entrance Results

Bagisha Tiwari, who lived on the fifth floor of the multi-storey building with her mother and brother, allegedly committed suicide on Wednesday.

Kota: An 18-year-old aspiring NEET student reportedly died by jumping from the ninth floor of a building in Kota. The incident occurred shortly after the National Testing Agency (NTA) released the NEET-UG results. The victim, identified as Bagisha Tiwari, scored 320 out of 720 marks. This marks the tenth suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota this year, as reported by news agency PTI.

Hailing from Reva district in Madhya Pradesh, Bagisha was reportedly distressed over her performance in NEET. She had been preparing for the medical entrance test for the past three years in Kota, a prominent coaching hub. The tragic event took place on Wednesday afternoon at the building where she was residing under the Jawahar Nagar police station limits.

The teenager lived on the fifth floor of the building with her mother and brother, a Class 12 student and a JEE aspirant, Circle Inspector (CI) at Jawahar Nagar police station Harinarayan Sharma told PTI.

After attending her institute's classes on Wednesday afternoon, Bagisha reached the ninth floor and jumped from the balcony window. Despite a bystander's attempt to intervene, she could not be stopped, Sharma said.

She was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where she passed away within an hour during treatment, he added.

After conducting a postmortem, the police handed over the body of the deceased NEET aspirant to her family and initiated an investigation under section 174 (inquest) of the Criminal Procedure Code. While the exact motive behind the girl's tragic decision is still under investigation, preliminary inquiries suggest her dissatisfaction with her NEET result, according to the CI. It is yet to be confirmed whether the girl left behind a suicide note.

Speaking to reporters outside the mortuary, the father of the deceased, Vinod Tiwari, an engineer at the Public Works Department (PWD) in Reva, expressed regret over his daughter's NEET score. He mentioned that he had encouraged her not to be disheartened by the result, offering to support her admission to a private medical college.

Vinod described his daughter as diligent and devout. Meanwhile, Kota (City) Superintendent Amrita Duhan issued a warning on Thursday, threatening to file criminal cases against news channels airing CCTV footage of the alleged suicide. Bagisha's demise marks the tenth suspected suicide by a coaching student in Kota since January this year, with 26 cases reported in 2023, the highest ever.
