Govt Committed To Fair Probe Of Paper Leak And Strict Punishment For Guilty: President Murmu

NEET Paper Leak Case: The government is committed to a fair investigation and strict punishment for those involved in paper leaks, President Droupadi Murmu said.

Controversy surrounding the NEET and other paper leaks was highlighted in President Droupadi Murmu's speech in Parliament on Thursday morning. Addressing a joint session of both House, President Murmu said that the government is "committed to a fair investigation" and vowed "strict punishment for the culprits."

"Whether it is competitive examinations or government recruitment, there should be no reason for any hindrance. This process requires complete transparency and probity. Regarding the recent instances of paper leaks in some examinations, my government is committed to a fair investigation and ensuring strict punishment for the culprits," President Murmu said.

She also noted the recurring problem of paper leaks: "Even earlier, we have witnessed many instances of paper leaks in different states. It is important that we rise above party politics and undertake concrete measures nationwide."

The President further highlighted legislative efforts to curb the menace of paper leaks: "Parliament has also enacted a strict law against unfair means in examinations. My government is working towards major reforms in examination-related bodies, their functioning, and all aspects of the examination process."

President Murmu called for a united approach to tackle the NEET controversy, urging leaders to move beyond partisan politics. "It is essential for everyone to rise above party politics," she said, emphasizing the need for collaborative efforts to resolve the issue.

In her speech, President Murmu reflected on the Emergency period imposed by former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi from 1975 to 1977. She described it as the "biggest" and "darkest" chapter in India's history, noting it marked a direct attack on the Constitution.

Before her address, President Murmu was welcomed at the Parliament building by Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, and Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla. She was accompanied by an official carrying the 'Sengol,' which has now been adopted as a cultural symbol by the government.
