Centre To Spend Rs 5,800 Crore To Expand Kendriya Vidyalaya Network Over 8 Years
The Union Cabinet has approved the establishment of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) nationwide and the expansion of 1 existing KV in Shivamogga, Karnataka.
The Union Cabinet has approved the opening up of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under the Civil/Defence sector across the country. It has also given its nod for the expansion of one existing KV in Karnataka's Shivamogga district.
The Centre will spend approximately Rs 5872.08 crore over a period of eight years for setting up the 85 KVs and the expansion of one existing KV. Of the total expenditure, Rs. 2862.71 crore will be the capital component while Rs. 3009.37 crore will comprise the operational component.
Currently, a total of 1,256 are functioning including 3 abroad in Moscow, Kathmandu, and Tehran with 13.56 lakh students studying in these schools.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs stated in a press release: "The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has approved opening of 85 new Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) under Civil/Defence sector across the country and expansion of one existing KV i.e. KV Shivamogga, District Shivamogga, Karnataka to facilitate increased number of Central Government employees by adding two additional Sections in all the classes under the Kendriya Vidyalaya Scheme (Central Sector Scheme)."
Each KV will enrol 960 students, benefitting a total of 82,560 students in all. Each school will also provide employment to 63 persons and the expansion of one existing KV will add 33 new posts.
The new KVs will be opened in Andhra Pradesh (8), Arunachal Pradesh (1), Assam (1), Chhattisgarh (4), Gujarat (3), Himachal Pradesh (4), Jammu and Kashmir (13), Jharkhand (2), Karnataka (3), Kerala (1), Madhya Pradesh (10), Maharashtra (3), Delhi (1), Odisha (7), Rajasthan (8), Tamil Nadu (2), Tripura (2), Uttar Pradesh (5), Uttarakhand (4).
