Mumbai's Sunni Dawate Islami Plans To Introduce Math & Science In Madrasas

A Mumbai-based community trust is taking a significant step to broaden the educational scope for madrasa students. In the upcoming academic year, Sunni Dawate Islami intends to introduce mathematics, science, and social studies in its seminaries. These seminaries, known as Darul Uloom, are managed by the trust, which also operates regular schools under the Maharashtra school education board. Currently, the 400-plus students enrolled in the trust's madrasas receive instruction in English language basics and computers alongside the traditional seminary curriculum.

“The objective is to enable the students to appear for the Class 10 exams held by the school education and thus help them pursue higher education in universities. These students can appear as private students for class 10 board exams through the schools affiliated with Sunni Dawate Islami,” said Maulana Shakir Noorie, president and founder of Sunni Dawate Islami.

The organisation manages institutions like Hera English High School in Bhiwandi, along with several other schools aligned with the state education board curriculum. In the trust's madrasas, students delve into Quranic studies encompassing interpretations of the Quran, the Hadith—a compilation of books on prophetic traditions—Quranic law, Arabic and Persian languages, and logical reasoning. The curriculum spans five years for students to achieve the title of Alim and an additional two years to attain the status of Mufti.
