Delhi LG Approves Educational, Age Relaxations For 1984 Anti-Sikh Riots' Victims Seeking Govt Jobs
Delhi LG V.K. Saxena has granted full relaxation in educational qualification and age relaxation up to 55 years for 88 applications for employment from victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots.
In a move to provide relief to victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots, Delhi Lieutenant Governor V.K. Saxena on Sunday granted full relaxation in educational qualifications and age limits, up to 55 years, for 88 applicants seeking employment in government service. This relaxation enables their appointment to the post of Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS).
The decision follows repeated representations by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, public representatives, and groups of victims who recently met with the LG to raise this matter.

“A Rehabilitation Package, including provision of jobs, was sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India, on 16 January 2006, for victims of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots. The Revenue Department, in a subsequent special drive, received 72 applications, out of which appointment was given to 22 applicants by obtaining age relaxation from the then LG," a statement informed.
In October 2024, LG Saxena further granted full relaxation in educational qualifications for 50 remaining applicants from the special drive. The Revenue Department was also directed to process cases for granting employment to one of the children of applicants who had exceeded the age limit for employment. Special camps were organised between 28 and 30 November 2024, and notices were issued in leading newspapers to invite applications for employment from family members of riot victims.

88 Anti-Sikh Riots Victims Now Eligible For Appointment As MTS In Government Service
As a result, 199 applications were received, and 89 candidates were found eligible. However, most of these candidates exceeded the age limit, and some did not meet the required educational qualifications. With the LG's approval, 88 of these applicants will now be eligible for appointment as MTS in government service, the statement read.
Highlighting the enduring impact of the riots, LG Saxena remarked that the 1984 anti-Sikh riots were "a blot on Indian democratic traditions, where terrible atrocities were committed upon a particular minority community, violating all standards of human rights and affecting many families by taking the lives of their single breadwinners."
