Cyclone Michaung: Half-Yearly School Exams Postponed In Tamil Nadu’s Chennai, 3 Other Districts

The school headmasters of each school in the districts where half-yearly exams have been postponed have been authorised to conduct the exams as per recovery and with separate question paper.

In the wake of the incessant rainfalls in several parts of Tamil Nadu, the half yearly exams for school students have been postponed in several affected districts of the state, the Tamil Nadu School Education Department was reported as saying by ANI.  The half yearly exams have been postponed for Chennai, Chengalpattu, Thiruvallur, and Kancheepuram districts, while the exams will begin as scheduled from Thursday, in other districts of Tamil Nadu, as per an official statement.

For schools in the aforementioned districts where the half yearly exams have been postponed, the headmasters of each school have been authorised to conduct the exams as per recovery, and provide separate question papers to students in the exams. In the meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin took stock of areas of the state affected by Cyclone Michaung, and also distributed relief material to the people affected in these areas.

“The floodwaters in Chennai’s suburbs are still inundated. Many people are working in the field to ensure that everyone gets basic necessities like milk and food. We are continuing our fieldwork with the hope that the situation will improve soon,” ANI quoted MK Stalin as saying on X (formerly Twitter).

Earlier on Tuesday late evening, the Tamil Nadu chief minister took to X to assure people that the government has been working hard to mitigate the effects of the cyclone. “The entire government machinery such as ministers, officials, police, sanitation workers, and corporation workers are working hard to quickly remove the effects of the Cyclone Michaung calamity that surrounds us. I request that many more comrades should immediately join hands with the relief work along with the members of the club who are helping in the field. Members of the affected areas come quickly!” Stalin said on X.

The Tamil Nadu chief minister has also written to the Prime Minister seeking an immediate interim relief fund of Rs 5,060 crores, in the wake of the destruction caused by Cyclone Michaung. Stalin has also requested PM Modi to send a central team to review the damages caused by the cyclone in the state.
