Patna Schools Asked To Revise Timings Amid Rising Temperatures Across Bihar

With temperatures reaching as high as 41.5 degrees in the state capital, the Patna administration has asked city schools to revise their timings.

With the summer heat intensifying early this year, mercury levels have been soaring steadily across Bihar. Several places along the state have recorded temperatures above 40 degree celsius with the capital city Patna hitting 41.5. In regard to the temperature shift across the state, the meteorological department has flagged alert against intense heat waves. Following the warning, the Patna district administration has swung into action and has asked all school administrations in the capital to revise their timings. The district administration has also issued guidelines to prevent incidents of heat stroke among children. 

“The district administration prohibits the academic activities for all classes (including in pre-schools and anganwadi centers) after 11.45 am in all schools of the district. The school authorities are hereby directed to reschedule their timings of academic activities in conformity of the order. The order will come into force from April 15,” said the order issued by Patna district magistrate Chandra Shekhar Singh on Friday, news agency PTI reported. 

On Thursday, April 13, Bihar’s capital Patna recorded a maximum temperature of 41.5 degree celsius. Other cities in the state also recorded similar mercury levels with 41.3 degree celsius in Gaya, 41.2 degree in Rohtas, 40.8 degree in Jamui, 40.7 degree in Aurangabad, and 40.6 degree in Khagaria.

Notably, in the wake of the soaring summer heat and warnings from weathermen, states have been gearing up to roll down preventive measures and guidelines to safeguard people from harsh heat waves, especially children. On Thursday April 14, the Delhi Government after being alerted about intense heat waves in the national capital in the next few days, issued detailed guidelines for Delhi schools to follow. 

The advisory from the Directorate of Education (DoE) Delhi, asked schools to ensure that no assembly is organized in the afternoon. It further added that children must be sensitized to protect themselves from the summer heat, ensure proper availability of drinking water and water breaks in schools, and report to a nearby hospital or health facility if any student has a case of heat-related illness.
