Kannauj Rape Case: Medical Examination Confirms Rape As Political Row Alleging 'Conspiracy' Deepens

In Kannauj rape case, medical examination confirmed rape of minor girl. The accused, Nawab Singh Yadav, has been charged with the offence while the political row over it deepens.

In the Kannauj rape case, the police on Tuesday confirmed that the medical examination of the girl has shown she was raped. The case, which involves a man allegedly linked to the Samajwadi Party (SP), has sparked a political controversy, with the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) accusing the SP of shielding the accused.

Kannauj Superintendent of Police (SP) Amit Kumar Anand stated, "The girl, during her statement to the magistrate, also confirmed the incident of rape." He further mentioned that with the medical examination confirming the assault, additional charges under Section 64 (rape) of the BNS have been filed against the accused, Nawab Singh Yadav, news agency PTI reported.

Yadav, who was arrested on Monday, is a former block chief and reportedly a close aide of SP leader Dimple Yadav during her tenure as the Lok Sabha MP from Kannauj. However, the SP has distanced itself from Yadav. The party's Kannauj unit president, Kaleem Khan, accused the girl's aunt of having political affiliations and claimed that the entire episode was an attempt to tarnish the party's image.

The police revealed that the girl's aunt, who allegedly brought the minor to Nawab Yadav, was summoned for a statement but failed to appear. SP Anand confirmed that the woman will also be booked in the case, and a search is underway to locate her. According to the police, Nawab Yadav, who is the manager of a private college, had called the girl and her aunt to the college on Sunday night under the pretext of helping the teenager secure a job.

The girl's aunt, however, has claimed that Nawab Yadav is being falsely implicated, suggesting a conspiracy orchestrated by another local SP leader. "On the night of the incident, I was returning from Lucknow with my niece and decided to visit Yadav at the college to offer condolences for his mother's recent passing," she told reporters, hinting that three to four more individuals might be involved in the conspiracy but refraining from naming them, as per PTI.

Meanwhile, the girl's mother alleged that the entire incident was orchestrated by the aunt but did not provide further details.

The bail hearing for Nawab Singh Yadav is scheduled for August 14 in the court of POCSO Judge Alka Yadav. The police have stated that they are continuing their investigation and are examining the new claims made in connection with the case.
