Summer Vacation Extended In UP Schools Up To THIS Date Till Class 8th Due To Heatwave

Schools reopen for teachers and staff on June 16 for administrative duties. Regular classes resume July 1, 2025.

The summer vacation for all government and recognised private schools in Uttar Pradesh has been extended till June 30 for up to class 8th, said the Uttar Pradesh Basic Education Board.

As per an official circular issued by the Board, students will not be required to attend school for academic activities until the end of June due to the scorching heat. Regular classes will resume from July 1, 2025.

Earlier, the summer break was scheduled from May 20 to June 15, as per the Board’s earlier order dated December 26, 2024.

"In view of the current extreme heat and prevailing heatwave conditions, it has been decided that students will not attend school for academic activities until 30 June 2025. Regular academic sessions for students will resume from 1 July 2025," the circular read.

While students will remain on leave, schools will reopen on June 16 for teachers, Shiksha Mitras, instructors, and non-teaching staff, as per the official circular.

They are expected to attend and carry out academic, administrative, and other official duties as per the original schedule.

Management committees of recognised private schools have been authorised to make decisions as needed in view of the prevailing weather conditions.

District Basic Education Officers have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with the directive.

UP Sizzles From Heatwave

Uttar Pradesh continued to reel under a heatwave with the capital Lucknow recording its hottest day of the season so far at 44 degrees Celsius on Thursday.

Orai and Banda were recorded to be the hottest cities in the state with 44.8 degrees Celsius each followed by Jhansi with 44.7 degrees. Agra and Kanpur recorded a temperature of 44.6 degrees Celsius while Varanasi and Prayagraj also sweltered at 44 degrees.

A heatwave alert was issued for several districts including Ghaziabad, Gautam Buddh Nagar, Aligarh, Mathura, Hathras, Agra, Jhansi, Firozabad, Etawah, Auraiya and Jalaun.

As per the India Meteorological Department, the state could witness some respite after Saturday in the western region as a result of an increase in rainfall activities from eastern UP and gradually moving towards western UP.

"There will be a respite from scorching heat from June 15 onwards in most parts of the state,” said a senior scientist at Lucknow IMD Atul Kumar Singh.
