Naxal Commander Gunned Down In Encounter With Security Forces In Jharkhand

The encounter broke out between security forces and squad of Naxal leader Nitesh Yadav near Sitachuan area in the Hussainabad police station area of Palamu district late last night.

A Naxal commander was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jharkhand's Palamu district late last night. He belonged to the banned CPI (Maoist). 

The encounter broke out between security forces and Naxals near Sitachuan area in the Hussainabad police station area of Palamu district. The gunfight took place with the squad of Naxal leader Nitesh Yadav, who carries a bounty of ₹15 lakh. He is also said to have been injured in the encounter, news agency PTI reported.

Several weapons, including a self-loading rifle, were recovered during the search operation at the encounter site.

"The body of a CPI (Maoist) has been recovered, following an intense gunfight between the security forces and red rebels in Palamu. The identification process is on," Palamu DIG YS Ramesh told PTI.

Another police official has confirmed that it was the body of Tulsi Bhuniyan, a top Maoist commander. However, Ramesh said the body is yet to be verified.

Maoist With Rs 5 Lakh Bounty Killed In Jharkhand

In another encounter, a member of the banned CPI (Maoist), who was carrying a bounty of Rs 5 lakh on his head, was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jharkhand's Latehar district, PTI reported.

The joint operation was carried out by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and the Jharkhand Police in the Ichabar forest area, which comes under the Latehar Police Station limits. The gunfight broke out in a forest in Dauna under the Mauhadand Police Station limits on Sunday night.

"Manish Yadav, who was carrying a reward of Rs 5 lakh on his head, was killed in the gunfight with security forces. Another Maoist, Kundan Kherwar, was arrested," Palamu DIG YS Ramesh told PTI.

The operation was conducted just two days after two Maoists, including Jharkhand Jan Mukti Parishad (JJMP) supremo Pappu Lohra, were killed in an anti-Naxal operation by security forces in the district. Lohra who was carrying a bounty of Rs 10 lakh on his head.
