Man Chops Off His Fingers To Avoid Working As Accountant In Family Business In Gujarat
A man from Surat intentionally severed four fingers on his left hand to avoid working as a computer operator for his family's diamond firm.
Unhappy with his work as a computer operator in his family business firm, a man from Gujarat's Surat devised the most bizarre way to get rid of it, by chopping off his fingers.
The man, identified as Mayur Tarapara, initially claimed that his fingers went missing after he fainted but later admitted to intentionally cutting them in order to not be able to work as a computer operator at his relative's diamond firm, reported India Today.
On December 8, the man contacted the cops saying that the fingers of his left hand had gone missing. As per his initial statement, he was waiting for a friend near Vedant Circle in Surat. When his friend did not show up for an hour, he decided to go home.
On his way, he stopped for a while due to a natural urge when he felt dizzy and fainted. After he regained consciousness, he noticed that four fingers on his left hand were gone, he claimed.
Tarapara alerted his friend who took him to a hospital for treatment. He was treated by doctors for his severed finger and was discharged the same day. However, the police were puzzled as there were no traces of blood or any other evidence found at the location he described, raising suspicion about his story.
The truth was ultimately uncovered by the Surat Crime Branch days later. "Mayur Tarapara admitted to cutting off his own fingers," said Deputy Commissioner of Police Bhavesh Rozia. He bought a knife and carried out the act in a planned manner, the police official said.
Tarapara was under immense pressure at work, the DCP said. He was working as an accountant for a jewellery showroom owned by a relative and was reportedly forced by his father to continue the work despite him not wanting to, he added.
During the investigation, police analysed Tarapara's mobile location data and sought assistance from a forensic expert who confirmed his confession. The man revealed he first chopped off his three fingers and later cut the fourth.
"I don't know why I did it," Tarapara said when the media questioned him and declined to comment further.
