Fire Breaks Out In Security Scanning Machine At Maharashtra Assembly In Mumbai
A short circuit caused a minor fire in a Maharashtra Assembly scanner, quickly extinguished with no injuries.

Mumbai: A fire broke out in the security scanning machine at the Maharashtra Assembly. The cause of the fire is reported to be a short circuit. A video of the incident was shared by news agency ANI; watch it here.
According to authorities, a scanner at one of the entrances to the Maharashtra assembly building in south Mumbai caught fire on Monday. The incident took place around 3 p.m., and no one was hurt, news agency PTI reported. Within five minutes, security personnel put out the fire, according to a civic official. The Fire Brigade sent two fire engines and additional vehicles to the scene.
Eight of Two Families, Including Toddler, Killed in Massive Fire at Solapur Textile Unit
In a separate incident, eight members of two families, including a toddler, lost their lives in a devastating fire that engulfed a textile factory in Maharashtra’s Solapur district on Sunday, officials said. The blaze raged for nearly 13 hours, injuring three Fire Brigade personnel involved in the firefighting operation.
According to officials, the fire broke out around 3:45 am at Central Textile Mills located on Akkalkot Road in the Solapur MIDC area, approximately 400 kilometres from Mumbai. The blaze was reportedly triggered by a short circuit.
Firefighting operations continued till 8 pm and involved over 100 water tankers, fire tenders, and personnel from different fire brigades, including teams from the Solapur Municipal Corporation, municipal councils of Pandharpur and Akkalkot, the MIDC, and NTPC. An official noted that while the fire was brought under control around 5 pm, it reignited during the cooling process and was finally doused around 8 pm.
Among the deceased were factory owner Haji Usman Hasanbhai Mansuri (80), his grandson Anas Hanif Mansuri (25), Anas’s wife Shifa Anas Mansuri (20), and their one-and-a-half-year-old son, Yusuf Mansuri. Fire Brigade personnel discovered the bodies inside a bedroom on the factory premises after dismantling a wall to gain entry. Officials said the toddler was found in his mother’s arms.
The other four victims were identified as Mehtab Sayyad Bagwan (45), a worker at the unit, his wife Ashabanu (38), their son Salman (20), and daughter Hina (26). All the victims were asleep when the fire broke out.
A civic official told PTI that while three victims died from severe burn injuries, five others succumbed to smoke inhalation. After initially recovering three bodies, fire personnel took nearly 13 hours to locate the remaining five victims, who had rushed to a bedroom in an attempt to save themselves but became trapped. They were taken to a state-run hospital, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed sorrow over the tragedy. In a post on X, he said, “Pained by the loss of lives due to a fire tragedy in Solapur, Maharashtra. Condolences to those who have lost their loved ones. May the injured recover soon.” He also announced an ex-gratia of ₹2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for the next of kin of each deceased, and ₹50,000 for the injured.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also conveyed his condolences and declared an ex-gratia of ₹5 lakh for the families of the deceased.
