Chaos In MCD House As BJP Accuses AAP Of Sheltering Rohingyas, Bangladeshis
On Thursday, the MCD House witnessed chaos as opposition councillors staged a protest, accusing the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) of sheltering Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants, news agency PTI reported. The session, which was scheduled to begin at 2 pm, was delayed as Mayor Mahesh Khichi had not arrived by 3 pm, further escalating tensions. BJP and Congress councillors stormed into the well of the House, climbed atop benches, and raised placards with slogans targeting the AAP. Some placards read, "Illegal Rohingyas and Bangladeshi immigrants are AAP's friends" and "Liar Kejriwal, shame on you."
Opposition councillors also chanted slogans such as "Mayor Shahab time pe aao" and "nahi chalega, aise house nahi chalega," demanding the mayor’s apology before the session could proceed.
In response, AAP councillors raised slogans like "Baba Saheb ka apmaan nahi sahenge" and "Jai Bhim," referencing Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s recent remarks in Parliament about Dr B R Ambedkar, the country's first law minister. The issue of Rohingya and Bangladeshi immigrants has become a significant flashpoint between the ruling AAP and the opposition BJP in Delhi, with both parties accusing each other of settling illegal immigrants for electoral gains.
