Caught On Camera: Delhi SUV Driver Runs Over Guard Who Asked Him To Stop Honking, Arrested Hours Later

In Delhi, a 24-year-old man was arrested for intentionally hitting a security guard with his car after an altercation. The victim, Rajiv Kumar, was seriously injured and is currently hospitalised.

In swift action, the Delhi Police arrested a 24-year-old man in connection with a hit-and-run case reported in the South-West district, where a security guard was seriously injured after being deliberately rammed by a vehicle. The accused, identified as Vijay, a resident of Rangpuri, was arrested from the Vasant Kunj area. The police also impounded the black Mahindra Thar Roxx (registration number DL09SBG6070) used in the incident.

According to police officials from the Vasant Kunj station, a complaint was received on May 4 from Rajiv Kumar, who alleged that he had been intentionally hit by a four-wheeler near the red light at the Mahipalpur Flyover. Kumar sustained multiple crushed and fractured injuries to his legs and ankle in the incident, news agency IANS reported.

When the altercation occurred, the victim, a security guard at Terminal 3 of IGI Airport, was on his way home from his nighttime job. In his police statement, Kumar claimed that a man behind him in a Thar SUV started honking excessively, India Today reported. The guy sought the security baton from the driver when Kumar asked him to halt. The driver allegedly threatened to run him over when he refused.

Shortly after Kumar crossed the street, the suspect sped up his car and struck him, sending him to the ground before turning around and running him over once more, according to the police.

Delhi Accused Admits To Hit And Run, Arrested

A case under attempt to murder was registered at the Vasant Kunj Police Station, and a team was immediately formed to investigate the matter. The team included Sub-Inspector Upender Singh, Head Constables Nemichand, Pawan, and Ravit, and operated under the supervision of Inspector Arvind Pratap Singh and the Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) of Vasant Kunj.

During the preliminary probe, police officials indicated that the accused and the victim had a hostile altercation over an undisclosed issue prior to the attack. The exact motive behind the attempted murder is still under investigation.

The police team conducted an extensive analysis of CCTV footage from the area surrounding the crime scene. Their efforts led to the identification of the suspect vehicle and eventually to the arrest of Vijay.

Upon interrogation, Vijay reportedly confessed to the crime. He was subsequently taken into custody and is now behind bars.
