Delhi Traffic Challans At Lok Adalat: How To Clear Traffic Fines At The 'People's Court'?

Delhi Police, along with Delhi Legal Services Authority, has launched a Lok Adalat framework to resolve traffic challans quickly. Residents can settle pending fines without lengthy courtroom proceedings.

In a move designed to ease the burden on the judicial system and offer relief to everyday commuters, the Delhi Police, in partnership with the Delhi Legal Services Authority, has launched a fast-track solution for resolving traffic challans. By integrating the Lok Adalat framework into its operations, the initiative allows residents to settle their pending traffic fines without enduring the hassle of lengthy courtroom proceedings.

What Is Lok Adalat And How Does It Help?

Literally, the "People's Court", 'Lok Adalat' is a statutory body formed under the Legal Services Authorities Act of 1987. It serves as a powerful alternative dispute resolution platform, offering fair and speedy justice for all under Articles 14 and 39-A of the Constitution of India. Once a matter is resolved through Lok Adalat, its decision carries the weight of a civil court judgment. It's final, binding, and not open to appeal, ensuring quick closure and certainty for both parties involved.

How To Resolve Delhi Traffic Challans Through Lok Adalat?

Got a pending traffic fine? Here's a step-by-step breakdown to help you navigate the process seamlessly:

Begin by heading to the official Delhi Traffic Police Evening Court portal: https://traffic.delhipolice.gov.in/evecourtddc.

Type in your vehicle number and the captcha code displayed on the screen. Hit 'Search' to view any outstanding challans or notices linked to your vehicle.

Ensure Mobile Number Registration

Your mobile number must be registered with the vehicle at the Transport Office. If it isn't, you'll be guided to do so through the Parivahan Sewa portal under 'Vehicle Related Services'.

Once your mobile number is registered, you'll receive a One-Time Password (OTP). Enter this code to continue the process.

Choose from available court session dates marked in green. Your selected date will appear in blue. Pick your preferred court location and a time between 5:00 PM and 6:00 PM.

Check the box indicating that you won't contest the challan via the virtual court platform www.vcourts.gov.in.

Click 'Submit' and then use the 'Print' button to generate a hard copy of your pending challans and notices.

Clearing Your Challan: What To Expect

On your appointed date, head to the selected evening court session with your printed documents. A presiding officer will help you resolve your traffic challans, usually on the spot, through a quick and amicable settlement process. In many cases, you'll be able to pay your fine immediately at the Lok Adalat.

If you happen to miss your slot, you can reschedule by booking a fresh appointment. Just keep in mind: the system will allow you to download your challans again only three days after the missed date.
