Bengaluru Man Kills 81-Year-Old Mother For Refusing To Give Money For Alcohol, Arrested

The accused had lost his job due to his alcoholism, and his wife also distanced herself from him after some time. He had been living alone with his 81-year-old mother.

In a shocking incident reported in Bengaluru, an 81-year-old woman was allegedly bludgeoned to death by her own son, who was reportedly struggling with alcohol addiction.

The victim, identified as R Shanta Bai, was a widow, and was murdered at their Bagalagunte residence late Thursday. Police have arrested her 56-year-old son and accused Mahendra Singh in connection with the crime, Times Of India reported.

According to the report, police investigation revealed that Bai's husband, Ram Singh, passed away many years ago. Mahendra lost his job because of alcoholism, and his wife also distanced herself from him after some time. He had been living with Shanta Bai since then.

Family members said that Mahendra often fought with his mother for money to buy alcohol. On Thursday night, he reportedly fought with her again, but the altercation turned violent as he hit her on the head with an iron rod in a fit of rage, leading to her death.

Upon hearing the commotion, neighbours rushed to their house and discovered Shanta Bai's body. They alerted police immediately, and Mahendra was taken into custody.

Son Kills Parents Over Property Dispute

In another similar incident, an elderly couple was found murdered in Kusugal village of Dharwad district in Karnataka in January, 2025. The victims, Ashokappa Kobbannavar and his wife Sharamma, were allegedly killed by his son, Gangadharappa, after a dispute over property ownership. 

The crime took place at night, but came to light in the morning. Hubbali Rural police initiated an investigation into the matter, and launched a manhunt to arrest the accused.

As per reports,villagers said the accused was demanding a land worth Rs 2 crore from his parents. He was alcoholic and used to fight with his parents almost everyday.

On the day of the incident, he came home in an inebriated state and began quarrelling with them over property. When they refused to agree to his demands, he attacked his father and step mother with a deadly weapon, TOI reported.
