Skill Development Tops Agenda For 94% Of Indian Companies In 2024: LinkedIn
In response to the evolving demands of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and automation, 98 per cent of Indian employers have observed significant changes in the skills they seek in candidates
Approximately 94 per cent of Indian companies today intend to improve their employees' skills and capabilities, with 53 per cent of them aiming to offer online training and development programs in 2024, according to a recent report released on Tuesday by the professional networking platform LinkedIn. The report also highlights that the top three priorities for India's learning and development (L&D) professionals this year include upskilling employees, aligning learning initiatives with business objectives, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.
Speaking on the report’s findings, Ruchee Anand, Senior Director for Talent, Learning and Engagement Solutions, LinkedIn India, said, "With skills for jobs globally expected to change 68 per cent by 2030, we are seeing a greater emphasis on learning both technical and soft skills with a majority of employers surveyed agreeing that this balance will be critical for organisations to succeed in the age of AI."

Alongside AI proficiency, companies now emphasise on soft skills and a willingness to learn, relearn and unlearn in the candidates. Additionally, 91 per cent of learning and development (L&D) professionals in India recognised the growing importance of human skills in today's competitive economy.
Additionally, the report emphasised that 48 per cent of hiring managers in India are offering career advancement pathways for their current staff. 38 per cent of them consider aiding employees in developing future-oriented skills and offering competitive compensation and benefits (31 per cent) as crucial factors in retaining top talent.
This LinkedIn encompassed 4,323 hiring managers across various countries, including the UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, the US, India, Australia, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, China, the Netherlands, Sweden, MENA, and Brazil.
