Nita Ambani Named Among Top Philanthropists Of 2020 For Contributions During Coronavirus Crisis

US magazine acknowledged the effective contributions made by Nita Ambani and her foundation in the fight against COVID-19.

New Delhi: Reliance Industries non-executive director and the founder of the Reliance Foundation, Nita Ambani has been named among one of the leading 'Philanthropists of 2020' by America’s leading general interest magazine - Town & Country.  ALSO READ | Mukesh Ambani’s Wealth Surges After Facebook Deal, Topples Jack Ma To Become Asia’s Richest Person The summer issue of the US magazine has featured Nita Ambani for leading Reliance Foundation’s efforts in saving lives by feeding frontline workers and the poors, its financial contributions, and for setting up India’s first Covid-19 hospital during deadly Coronavirus pandemic. She is the only Indian in the list that features prominent global individuals, such as Tim Cook, Oprah Winfrey, Laurene Powell Jobs, the Lauder Family, Donatella Versace, Michael Bloomberg, and more. One of the oldest American lifestyle magazine, Town & Country annually dedicates one full issue to some of the promising and committed philanthropists. This's years issue is dedicated to those people who saved lives and 'sense of hope' during the historic COVID-19 outbreak that has infected millions of people across the globe. Recognizing the effort of Nita Ambani and her foundation, the magazine stated: "The Reliance Foundation - the philanthropic initiative of Reliance Industries, founded and chaired by Ambani-distributed millions of meals and masks to frontline workers and the poor, set up India's first hospital for Covid-19 patients, and donated $72 million to an emergency fund." Over the years, we have equipped ourselves at the Foundation and at Reliance Industries to respond to crises with immediate, multi-pronged as well as systematic and calibrated responses to make our effort impactful and sustained. We are pleased and humbled that our initiative is being recognised at the global level. Our philanthropy is committed to support our government and our community whenever the need arises." Mukesh Ambani's Reliance Industries Limited (RIL) in March announced a donation of Rs. 500 crore to PM CARES Fund to help the government in fight against the deadly and fast-spreading COVID-19. RIL took many initiatives to ensure that the nation remains strong in the battle against the coronavirus pandemic. Mumbai Indians on Sunday hailed their owner Nita Ambani's recognition among top philanthropists of 2020 "who are saving lives and our sense of hope" given the circumstances of COVID-19. "Mrs. Nita Ambani is the only Indian to be featured in Town & Country magazine's list of top global philanthropists of 2020 who are working towards saving lives during the COVID-19 pandemic," Mumbai Indians said in a tweet from their official Twitter handle. The company distributed essential supplies to millions of people in the country via Reliance Retail. RIL also provided free fuel across India to notified emergency vehicles. The company had announced to give free 1 lakh masks daily to caregivers and workers. Besides these, the foundation took initiates to help millions of people connect via 'work from home', 'study from home'. In addition, the company has also contributed Rs 5 crore each to Maharashtra and Gujarat for the cause.
