Google Layoff 2024 - Firm Fires Entire Python Team, To Employ Cheaper Labour: Report

Several media reports have emerged citing information that the firm has fired its entire Python team and is trying to find cheap labour substitution for the same

Tech giant Google has reportedly conducted a major firing and laid off its entire Python team. Several media reports have emerged citing information that the firm has fired its entire Python team and is trying to find cheap labour substitution for the same.

Python is a very sophisticated, general-purpose programming language, and with the current dependence on Artifical Intelligence, the programming language assumes great importance. Citing the revelation by fired employees on social media platforms such as X, Hacker, and Reddit, Free Press Journal reported the development on Sunday.

Sharing accounts of employees affected by the layoff, a user on X said that the firm has asked the terminated employees to train their replacements in the Munich office. A few weeks ago, the tech giant also let go of several employees in the finance department and hired cheaper labour outside the US in their place.

Further, the firing comes days after Google sacked dozens of its employees in New York and California for staging a protest inside the office premises, against the support to Israel in Gaza.

A detailed thread on Hacker discussed the work culture prevalent in the corporates currently. Users shared their experience about shifting work outside US to cheaper substitutes in countries like India. One of the users on the thread commented, "Moving things to India sounds like a great idea, except the 13-15 hour difference in communication. it's all well and good until you're in Cupertino and taking an 11:30 pm call because they have 0 hours of overlap... guess you can force them to work US hours, but that goes to culture as well."
