Bengaluru Techie Lauds Google’s Work-Life Balance, Lists 3 Drawbacks: Check Here

Vikramaditya also shared that at Google, work done in a previous team isn’t considered for promotions when switching teams, which leads to employees often switching teams after getting a promotion

Raj Vikramaditya, a Bengaluru-based software engineer who recently completed three years at Google, praised the tech giant for providing its employees with an excellent work-life balance. He also described the Google campus as a hub of brilliant minds, where being surrounded by such talent encourages continuous growth and keeps one sharp.

However, he also highlighted the challenges he encountered while working at the company.

Vikramaditya shared in a post on X (Formerly Twitter) that processes at the tech giant often require too many approvals. "Processes can feel slow, but at this scale, multiple layers of approval are necessary to avoid risks like lawsuits," he explained. He also pointed out that employees have limited opportunities to work on end-to-end features, as most teams don’t have that scope. "Much of the infrastructure is pre-built, so unless you’re on a core team, the learning curve might not be as steep," he added.

Vikramaditya also shared that at Google, work done in a previous team isn’t considered for promotions when switching teams, creating a scenario where employees often switch teams immediately after receiving a promotion. "This can result in slower promotions in some teams," he explained.
