Toyota Urban SUV Concept: A 550-km Range EV Due For 2025
The Toyota Urban SUV will have a similar componentry to the Maruti Suzuki eVX, but both the much-anticipated Japanese EVs in India will feature district styling cues.
Toyota has finally showcased its Urban SUV concept, which is the sister sibling to the Maruti Suzuki eVX. These two are born electric SUVs and will be expected to debut in 2025. Both the Toyota and Suzuki versions will differ in terms of styling as seen here with the Urban SUV concept having the global design language of Toyota cars. Toyota has not revealed the specifications but has said that the Urban SUV concept has a length of 4300 mm and could have a range of 550 km.
There would be two battery sizes and the 550 km version would be the top-end one. This would be the most compact BEV from Toyota and compete with the likes of the Hyundai Creta EV and the MG ZS. If we look at the eVX, the Urban SUV concept is similar in some ways including the rear styling but gets a different front end look. Unlike the eVX, the Urban SUV concept has a blanked off look along with a sleek LED lighting strip.

The Urban SUV concept will be built alongside the eVX in Gujarat and will be the mass market offering from both Toyota and Maruti. The heavy localisation would be the key to the pricing and that is the key to a greater acceptance of EVs in the future. That said, the production spec version will differ from the concept shown here but it would be key to the future electrified plans of both these carmakers. Globally Toyota is bullish on EVs and the Urban SUV concept would be placed above the Hyryder in terms of price when it eventually comes to the Indian market.
