Andhra Pradesh Post-Poll Unrest: Prohibitory Orders Enforced In Palnadu District

In Palnadu, District Collector and Magistrate Shiva Shankar has directed the police to enforce Section 144, which prohibits public gatherings.

The authorities in Andhra Pradesh's Palnadu district have implemented prohibitory orders following reports of fresh post-poll violence incidents in several other districts on Wednesday. Acting on the directives of the Election Commission of India, authorities in Palnadu have enforced Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code throughout the district, enhancing security measures as a precautionary measure.

The District Collector and Magistrate Shiva Shankar also directed the police to enforce Section 144, which prohibits public gatherings. The prohibitory orders will apply to the Narasaraopet Lok Sabha constituency, encompassing the Assembly segments of Macherla, Gurazala, Vinukonda, Sattenapalle, Pedakurapadu, Narasaraopet, and Chilakalurpieta.

The police have cautioned that gatherings of three or more individuals will be subject to action. Rallies, meetings, and processions have been banned until further notice by the authorities, according to a report on IANS.

On Wednesday morning, police employed lathi charges to disperse crowds near the residences of former MLA J. C. Prabhakar Reddy and MLA Kethireddy Pedha Reddy. Both leaders were escorted by the police to separate locations in an effort to ease tensions in the town.

The supporters of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) and the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) have clashed after the polls in Palnadu district.

Late on Tuesday night, outside her residence in Allagadda town, Kurnool district, an aide of former minister Bhuma Akhila Priya was injured in an attack by unidentified assailants. Nikhil, the aide, was struck by a car and subsequently assaulted with knives by the attackers. Akhila Priya, who is the MLA candidate from Allagadda for the TDP, remains associated with the incident.

Meanwhile, incidents of post-poll violence were also reported from Tirupati, Chittoor, and Anantapur districts on Tuesday.

Vehicles of TDP supporters were damaged allegedly by YSRCP workers at Velpur in Savalyapuram Mandal in Palnadu.
