Hyderabad: The Andhra Pradesh government has announced power holidays for industries in the state for the first time since the bifurcation.
With the start of the power holidays, there will be a one-day power outage once a week. This will take place from April 8th to April 22nd.
Andhra Pradesh Southern Power Distribution Corporation Limited Chairman and Managing Director Haranath Rao said that power cuts are being implemented for industries under SPDCL in Andhra Pradesh. The 253 processing industries under SPDCL are advised to consume only 50 per cent of electricity.
Haranath Rao said a power holiday was announced one day a week for 1,696 industries. He urged the industry owners to observe a one-day Power Holiday in addition to the weekly holiday. He explained that Power Holiday would be in force for industries for two weeks, from the 8th to the 22nd of this month.
Haranath Rao said that power outages have become unavoidable due to the widening gap between demand and supply. Electricity distribution companies are working to provide nine hours of power to the agriculture sector and uninterrupted service to domestic and commercial customers.
Electricity officials said 235 million units were consumed on April 1, and 64 million units were purchased from outside markets. It is said that the electricity demand has increased further compared to the last couple of years.
According to officials, Andhra Pradesh has been facing a nearly 40-50 MU deficit per day.
