New US Ambassador reassures peace to Afghanistan

Kabul [Afghanistan], Jan 10 (ANI): Reaffirming support to the war-torn country, the newly-appointed US Ambassador to Afghanistan John Bass has assured to build "a peaceful, secure, and prosperous future for all Afghans."

"I look forward to working with everyone in this society, inside and outside government, to build a peaceful, secure, and prosperous future for all Afghans. So you may live and raise your families, in peace and dignity," reported Khaama Press, quoting Bass, as saying.

"Our work is often challenging, and when we face it together, we succeed," the US Ambassador added, "I am committed to strengthening our strategic partnership to improve peace and security, increasing trade and economic development, and fighting corruption and narcotics trafficking. I'm also committed to supporting Afghan efforts to promote education, gender equality, human rights, and the rule of law."

The new US Ambassador to Afghanistan starts his new mission months after the Trump administration announced its new strategy for South Asia.

Bass, whose nomination for the US Ambassador to Afghanistan by the Senate in late September, had previously served as the U.S. ambassador to Turkey for five years from 2012-2017. (ANI)
