Indo-US commitment towards counter-terrorism strengthened after PM Modi visit: Envoy Sarna
New York [USA], July 15 (ANI): Indian ambassador to the United States Navtej Sarna on Saturday said the Indo-US commitment towards eliminating terrorism has strengthened post Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Washington D.C.
"With Prime Minister Modi's visit, the Indo-US commitment on counter terrorism has strengthened," Sarna told ANI, on the sidelines of the FICCI-IIFA Global Business Forum meeting here.
Citing the joint statement addressed by Prime Minister Modi and U.S. President Donald Trump, Ambassador Sarna re-iterated that a strong message has been sent to Pakistan to take necessary action for curbing terrorism.
"The two leaders in their joint statement called upon Pakistan to not allow terrorism to come out of its territory. It also sets into motion a consultative mechanism for designation of terrorist organisations and individuals," he said.
In their joint press statement, Trump stressed on eliminating and destroying radical Islamic terrorism and emphasised on how both nations - the U.S. and India - are deeply affected by the malaise of terrorism.
"Both nations have been struck by the evils of terrorism and are determined to destroy it, especially the radical Islamic terrorism. We will be enhancing the military cooperation and next month, will join the Japan Navy to take part in the largest Maritime exercise in the vast Indian Ocean. I appreciate India's efforts in Afghanistan," Trump said.
"The leaders called on Pakistan to ensure that its territory is not used to launch terrorist attacks on other countries," said the joint statement issued at the conclusion of the meeting between Prime Minister Modi and President Trump.
The statement added that they further called on Pakistan to expeditiously bring to justice the perpetrators of the 26/11 Mumbai, Pathankot, and other cross-border terrorist attacks perpetrated by Pakistan-based groups. (ANI)
