Section 497 of IPC is unconstitutional, declares Supreme Court
CJI Dipak Misra reading verdict on the validity of Section 497 (Adultery) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) said, "Mere adultery can't be a crime, unless it attracts the scope of Section 306 (abetment to suicide) of the IPC."
The court further said that “There can't be any social license which destroys a home”. The apex court's five-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra said the beauty of the Constitution is that it includes "the I, me and you".
