The Supreme Court refused to hear a petition seeking minority status for Hindus in 9 states. The petitioner Ashwini Upadhyay was asked to go to High Court. Upadhyay says, ''1 to 30 per cent of the Hindu population in Kashmir, Ladakh, Punjab, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal and Lakshadweep is in minority.
