Weather Alert: Cloudbursts Trigger Widespread Destruction Beyond Mumbai
Heavy rainfall and cloudbursts have caused severe devastation across northern India, extending beyond Mumbai. In Jammu & Kashmir's Doda district, a cloudburst in the Gandoh area triggered flash floods, sending torrents of water, mud, and debris rushing down the mountains through seasonal streams. Initial reports indicate significant damage, although authorities have not yet released an official assessment. Meanwhile, in Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti district, a cloudburst near Jispa caused sudden floods that cut off nearly a dozen villages. Roads have been blocked by debris, isolating remote areas and disrupting transportation. The Jabrang Bridge was submerged, while another bridge over the Jahlma Nala was washed away, worsening connectivity. Residents have been forced to cross hazardous flood-affected routes at great personal risk due to the lack of safe alternatives. Rescue and assessment efforts are ongoing as officials continue to monitor the situation. The incidents highlight the widespread impact of intense monsoon weather, with flash floods and infrastructure damage posing serious challenges across the affected regions.
