Sultanpur Encounter: What Sparked Akhilesh Yadav’s Attack on CM Yogi? | UP News
Samajwadi Party President Akhilesh Yadav has raised concerns about the police encounter involving Mangesh Yadav, an accused in the Sultanpur robbery case. Mangesh Yadav was killed in the encounter, which Yadav has labeled as a "fake encounter." He suggested that the encounter was staged because the robbers were allegedly connected to the ruling party, and the decision to kill Yadav was influenced by caste considerations. In a post on X, Akhilesh Yadav claimed that the main accused in the Sultanpur robbery had been in contact with the ruling party before the fake encounter, leading to his surrender while others received only superficial injuries. He criticized the government for not fully recovering the stolen goods and called for compensation for the victims, arguing that such incidents cause long-term mental trauma and economic loss. Akhilesh Yadav further asserted that fake encounters are a superficial remedy that only masks deeper issues within the law and order system. He accused the BJP government of using encounters as a way to appear tough on crime while failing to address the root causes of criminal activity. The robbery, which took place on August 28 at Bharat Jewellers, involved a theft of ₹1.5 crore. While three suspects were already in custody, Mangesh Yadav, a ₹1 lakh reward criminal, was killed in a police encounter on September 5 at Hanumanganj Bypass.
