New Criminal Law Takes Effect Today, First FIR Filed Against Cart Vendor | Indian Penal Code
First FIR in BNS: Under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the first FIR was registered at the Kamla Market police station in Central Delhi on Monday, July 1, as per the new law. Late at night, a patrolling police team noticed a man had set up a cart in the middle of the road near the New Delhi Railway Station, selling water and gutkha. This was causing inconvenience to people passing by. Consequently, the police registered an FIR against this individual under BNS.
The police repeatedly asked the man to move his cart to clear the way and prevent any trouble for passersby. However, he ignored the police officers and refused to comply, explaining his predicament and then leaving. Subsequently, the police took his details and filed an FIR under Section 285 of the new BNS law, initiating an investigation. This marks the first FIR registered under this law.
