Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a 'red alert' for sub-Himalayan states such as West Bengal, Sikkim, Meghalaya, and Bihar, predicting extremely heavy rainfall exceeding 204.5 mm in 24 hours on Thursday. The weather department warns that rainfall intensity will increase in Delhi over the coming days, while Mumbai can expect light showers and sunny skies. In Uttar Pradesh, incessant rain has caused flooding in 633 villages across 12 districts, resulting in 19 rain-related deaths. Teams from the NDRF and SDRF are working with local authorities to address flood-related issues in the affected areas.
According to IMD, light to moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is very likely over Andaman and Nicobar Islands, West Bengal, Bihar, northeastern states, Jharkhand, and Odisha during the next five days.
