Kolkata Doctor Case: TMC Removes Shantanu Sen from Spokesperson Position After Controversial Statement
TMC's former MP, Shantanu Sen, faced repercussions for his remarks regarding the rape and murder of a female doctor in Kolkata. The party removed him from his position as spokesperson. Following this action, Sen responded, stating that he remains committed to TMC but expressed disappointment over the treatment he received despite his loyalty. He mentioned that while leaders from other parties are welcomed and respected, a dedicated and loyal party member like him has to face such consequences. The controversy began when Shantanu Sen questioned the safety at R.G. Kar Medical College, where his daughter studies. He expressed concern about sending her for night duty, citing a decline in medical education standards at the college in recent years. His remarks led to his removal, with TMC labeling his statements as personal opinions. In a statement to news agency ANI, Sen said he learned of his removal through the media and reiterated his commitment to the party, stating that he had never spoken against the party or any leader in his capacity as a spokesperson. He added that the news reaching Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee might not always be accurate. Despite the setback, Sen affirmed that he remains with TMC and will continue his work within the party.
