The former Indian captain announced his retirement at exactly 7:29 pm on 15 August. The veteran wicketkeeper-batsman took to social media to announce his decision. The experienced wicketkeeper-batsman, who has not played an international match since last year's World Cup, wrote: "Thank you very much for your love and support. Consider me retired from 19:29 hours.
