Kanwar Yatra: How Will Yogi Government's Nameplate Decision Impact By Polls 2024? | ABP News

Following the Uttar Pradesh government's decision on Friday to mandate that all eateries along the Kanwar Yatra route display the names of their owners, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has pointed out that similar measures are already in place in his state. Dhami explained that these instructions were established on July 12 during a review meeting for Kanwar Yatra preparations. The controversy erupted after Muzaffarnagar Police issued an advisory earlier this week, which was criticized by opposition members who argued that it targeted Muslim traders and exacerbated communal tensions. The police, however, justified the advisory as a precautionary measure to prevent confusion and maintain public order. In response to the backlash, the Muzaffarnagar Police later revised their advisory to make the display of owners' names voluntary. Nonetheless, the Yogi Adityanath-led government has now enforced it as mandatory, citing the need to preserve the sanctity of the Kanwar pilgrimage. The government also announced that action would be taken against vendors selling Halal-certified products. Aligarh SP Mrigank Shekhar Pathak confirmed that strict measures are being implemented, including removing encroachments and ensuring food stall owners clearly display their names and contact information, to facilitate a smooth Kanwar Yatra experience.
