A day after Ansar, the main suspect in the Jahangirpuri violence, was arrested, claims of his involvement with Delhi's ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) have surfaced. Adesh Gupta, the Delhi BJP's leader, made the accusation. Ansar, he claimed, is a member of the AAP. Arvind Kejriwal, the party's leader, was also chastised by Gupta for harbouring rioters inside his ranks.

On Saturday, April 16, violence erupted during a Hanuman Jayanti parade in Delhi's Jahangirpuri neighbourhood, injuring a number of police officers.
