HAMIRPUR: Road Protest Forces District Administration Into Action

Protest at the Hamirpur Collectorate on August 11 over the poor condition of roads in Chandpur, the district administration has moved into action. Additional District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar, Sub-Divisional Magistrate Abhishek Kumar and a team of Public Works Department officials inspected the damaged, pothole-filled roads and assessed the situation on the ground. Officials also interacted directly with local residents and assured them that the road used by school-going children would be repaired at the earliest. Authorities said the inspection focused on ensuring that the connecting road between villages remains motorable and accessible, particularly during the monsoon. Waterlogging and damaged patches caused by heavy rainfall will be identified and filled as part of the repair plan. Meanwhile, the issue has become increasingly political, with opposition parties including the BJP, Samajwadi Party, Congress and Aam Aadmi Party raising the matter on social media and targeting the government and district administration. Opposition leaders alleged that children were forced to approach the Collectorate to demand a basic road facility, describing it as a sign of administrative failure. Officials, however, said much of the road remains motorable and promised to fix the damaged sections soon.
