Gurdaspur Attack: One Dead After Three Men Are Attacked With Sharp Weapons
A fresh case of alleged violence linked to opposition to drug trafficking has emerged from Gurdaspur, Punjab. According to the report, three people were attacked with sharp-edged weapons in Mari Panwan village on Thursday evening after reportedly objecting to the sale of narcotics in their neighbourhood. All three sustained serious injuries, and one victim, identified as Vikramjit Singh, died. The incident has intensified concerns over drug-related violence in the state. The report also connects the incident to the ongoing controversy in Mansa following the death of anti-drug activist Parvinder Singh Jhotta. According to the correspondent, protests related to that case were continuing, and the post-mortem had reportedly not yet been completed at the time of the broadcast. The report further mentions public anger in different parts of Punjab, including incidents involving the tearing down of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann’s posters and hoardings. Opposition parties have been criticising the Aam Aadmi Party government over its handling of the drug problem. However, the allegations surrounding the Gurdaspur attack and the identities or motives of the attackers require investigation. The latest incident has renewed the political debate over drug trafficking, public safety, and anti-drug efforts in Punjab.
