Govt and opposition on same page over OBC Bill Amendment | Master Stroke (10 August 2021)
The Lok Sabha on Tuesday passed the Constitution (127th Amendment) Bill 2021 after a marathon debate, which lasted for five hours and 55 minutes.
The Bill was passed by two-third majority in the House and all statutory resolutions were negated.
The Bill aims to restore the power that allowed the states and Union Territories (UTs) to prepare their own Other Backward Class (OBC) list. It was demanded by a number of regional parties and even the ruling party's own OBC leaders.
